The rain stayed away most of the morning, but it started to cloud up as Doris and I were out today. Still nice and warm though. We found a piece of flotsom that had been washed up from the other side, it was pretty heavy, but we drag lifted it over the sandy path to the railing at the street. There was not that much garbage this week, so we concentrated on the mugwort, which was pretty easy, since last nights rain had done some prep work for us. At one time I had to hide in a garbage bag, but the cloud burst was short lived. When it began to rain seriously I took a hasty retreat; but Doris kept going for another bag, one hand on the red umbrella. We took a lot out. We added at least 6 bags to the two that I had filled on Friday.

Doris and I worked for about three hours in Section A. Doris in the wetland, and I in the upland area. I removed about 4 bags of mugwort, adding a small pile of dumped concrete blocks so that they pick it up. We also packed the left wood and metal pieces from last week in a box and then in bags. We need to trick them into picking it up.

Moving all the stuff to the old pickup area near Beach 35 Street. We had quite a pile as you can see on the picture.

Doris came out and since Elaine came to visit she also went out with us for a little bit. She filled a bag and got to see a catterpillar for her troubles. I tied up some of the overhanging bushes, and made an attempt to resurrect the flattened Golden rods. Must have been some fight. The area was still kind of messy, eventhough two weeks ago we had the beach cleanup. Pulled a lot of Mugwort. We worked about two hours, and gathered a lot of big metal pieces.

One hour, one bag: 30% Crabgrass, 19% Phragmites, 1% litter, 50% Mugwort, one section plus some stuff over the fence around the Black Locust tree. It got really hot and after taking of my down vest, it still got hotter, thus I came inside. Took some pictures, but I wish I had the manual for the camera, I need to learn how to take micro photos.

A small kitten was sleeping in the sun, but did not disappear when I worked near it. I suppose I should bring out the cage with some food when I go out. Soon the cold will make them all sick and miserable. Must hook up with Ina to get a line to the pound. People are so ignorant, they just refuse to neuter their cats.

A little girl with white beads in her hair came by with her mother, and she said: "Thank you for taking care of our earth!" How sweet is that. I saw the RWA video today and it looks really good, the kids are the most impressive. They speak very well.

The wind was fierce today, but I went out for a while anyway, too stuffy inside my head. One section in the middle of the block, where the wind was bearable. People were flying by, but all were happy. I  saw several red licelike creatures, although they were quite  big. The bag was filled: 70% Crabgrass, 25% Mugwort, and 5% Phragmites. The parks department did not pick up Saturday's litter yet, this is not good. It was all in place, so we will give it another day.
